Residency Interviews Peak in the First Three Weeks of November
We looked at 1,782 interviews that 249 applicants in 20 specialties have scheduled in Rezumab this season, and 4,715 days on which a residency program sent interview invites. The calendar has a clear shape: a crowded November, an empty Thanksgiving week, a dead holiday stretch, and invites that arrive early in the week.

About five weeks from invite to interview
Applicants usually choose from dates the program offers, so the gap is partly their choice. Either way, an invite that arrives in mid-October usually means an interview in mid to late November. And with 86% of interviews virtual, the planning is mostly about time off and preparation, not travel. Five weeks is enough time to rehearse out loud: an AI mock interview is built for each program and gives you feedback on every answer afterward.
Invites arrive early in the week
Monday (22%), Tuesday (24%) and Wednesday (21%) account for 67% of the days programs sent invites this season. Thursday and Friday together are 31%. Saturday and Sunday are about 1% each.
Last season was similar. Across 1,764 invite days in four specialties, Monday was the busiest day (26%) and weekends were 3%. A quiet weekend inbox is normal. Programs are not sending.
The split differs by specialty. Each specialty’s page shows its own invite days by weekday, which programs have sent and how signals are playing out: start with internal medicine, emergency medicine or pediatrics, or pick yours from the list at the end.
Most invites are out by Halloween
Across the four specialties, 75% of reported invites had gone out by Oct 15 and 93% by Oct 31. Internal medicine ran latest: only 49% of its reported invites came by Oct 15, but 90% by Oct 31.
Counted by invite days instead, which weighs a small late wave the same as a big first release, the shares were 57% and 83%. Programs keep sending into November and December, mostly in smaller batches. That is why the calendar above will keep filling in for December and January while November is largely set.
What this means for you
Protect Nov 2 to 20. That is when your interviews are most likely to stack up. If you can choose a rotation or plan time off, these are the weeks to keep light.
Thanksgiving week and Dec 21 to Jan 3 are the safest weeks to be unavailable. Almost nothing is scheduled then.
Prepare in October. With a median of 37 days from invite to interview, an invite this month usually means an interview in November. Use the gap to rehearse with an AI mock interview built for each program.
Watch your inbox Monday to Wednesday. Don’t read anything into a quiet weekend. Live invite tracking shows which programs sent today.
