Most internal medicine invites go to applicants who signaled the program

This season, 72% of reported internal medicine invites with a known signal status went to applicants who had signaled that program (95% interval 68% to 77%). For comparison, 26% of this season’s internal medicine applications carried a signal. In last cycle’s applicant outcome records, covering the whole season, the share was 75%.

Those records also show how much more often signaled applications drew an offer: 67% of signaled internal medicine applications led to an interview offer, against 22% of unsignaled ones. That is association, not cause: applicants tend to signal programs where they are already competitive, and the records lean toward US MD and DO applicants who matched.

Gold vs silver: so far, each gold signal has drawn 1.2 times as many invites as each silver signal (95% interval 0.9 to 1.5), a difference too small to tell from none.
