Rotator reports10 reports · paraphrased
hands-on
  • 19-20Rotator in 2019/20 described a strong trauma rotation at the Level 1 site with competent junior and chief residents, q6 rotator call with post-call days honored, and a friendlier attending and fellow culture than expected.
  • 18-19Three rotators in 2018/19 described ~10 co-rotators, no rotation interview, excellent didactics, strong attending engagement with teaching, and high-volume trauma at the Level 1 site. Call at the trauma hospital was described as busy with long hours; non-trauma services had more typical workloads. Rotators had mixed impressions of fellow-versus-resident OR overlap.
  • 17-18Rotator in 2017/18 described a resident group prioritized for personality fit, very strong trauma and hand training, and transparent leadership. Rotator noted a self-described work-hard culture and some subspecialty weaknesses. Interview day had both a pre- and post-interview social.
  • 16-17Rotator in 2016/17 described a structured interview day with five 15-minute interviews including panel-style rooms, an unusual pre-interview social hosted by the program director, and thoughtful, complex interview questions.
  • 15-16Three rotators in 2015/16 described a program known for very high trauma volume with five trauma fellows present, a department described as being in transition, and mixed impressions of hands-on OR time for residents versus fellows. Residents were described as nice. Cost of living and cross-site driving were noted as downsides.
  • 14-15Rotator in 2014/15 described a well-regarded trauma experience with heavy PGY2 hours, more manageable lifestyle afterward, adequate operative experience, and strong research opportunities.

Paraphrased from rotator survey responses. Names and identifying details removed.
