Rotator reports3 reports · paraphrased
hands-on
  • 19-20Rotator in 2019/20 described a 4-week rotation split between St. Mary's (joints and spine) and Highland Hospital in Oakland (Level 1 trauma). No fellows and high intern/junior autonomy with hands-on cases. Rotators noted strong fellowship placement and limited research infrastructure. Bay Area was expensive with commuting challenges.
  • 17-18Rotator in 2017/18 described a community program with five call sites, home call with 40% call-in rate, no fellows, and strong operative autonomy. Resident-run didactics and strong fellowship placement were noted. Bay Area cost of living and commuting across the bridge were described as significant tradeoffs.
  • 14-15Rotator in 2014/15 described a small 3-per-year program split between San Francisco and Oakland with strong case variety, resident autonomy, and in-house chief call. Research opportunities exceeded expectations. Multiple sites complicated housing decisions and academic experience was limited.

Paraphrased from rotator survey responses. Names and identifying details removed.
