Rotator reports8 reports · paraphrased
U of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital
hands-on
  • 21-22Rotator in 2021/22 described very high case volume, extensive senior-resident operative time, and a service-heavy junior experience with no PA support. Formal didactics were limited, and residents developed strong clinical and procedural skills through experiential learning. Residents worked long hours throughout training.
Jackson Memorial (U Miami)
hands-on
  • 19-20Rotator in 2019/20 noted LOR access was service-dependent (trauma and hand most accessible; spine and tumor less so), and that residents actively helped rotators get faculty face time to support letters.
  • 18-19Two rotators in 2018/19 described heavy trauma and hand call for juniors, strong operative experience early, supportive co-residents, and county-hospital resource constraints with slower OR turnover. Rotators noted Spanish exposure and complex patient populations.
  • 17-18Rotator in 2017/18 described significant improvements in research output, new sports outpatient facilities, weekends off intern year on ortho, and only one off-site rotation. Rotator noted Spanish was a practical asset.
  • 15-16Rotator in 2015/16 described a balance of public and private training sites, 30 weeks of dedicated research, light intern overnight call, and strong operative experience at Jackson and the VA.
  • 14-15Two rotators in 2014/15 described a high-volume trauma program, blue-collar training with research blocks built in, prestigious faculty, strong fellowship placement, and a work-hard culture with Miami lifestyle perks.

Paraphrased from rotator survey responses. Names and identifying details removed.
