Rotator reports3 reports · paraphrased
mixed hands-onpresentation req.
  • 25-26Rotators described the program as more established now but noted 2-3 OR days across 4 weeks. Structure: 3 weeks of resident/attending clinic at the main hospital plus 1 week of off-site specialty clinic (subspecialty requestable). Car recommended. Rotators reported face time with 3-4 selection-committee faculty plus a day with the chair. Early week is spent learning tech workflow (imaging, basic workup), then rotators work up their own patients and present. LOR attainable.
  • 23-24Rotators described a newer program with supportive faculty but low volume; main surgical exposure for away rotators was cataract surgery. Rotators reported unclear expectations and unclear impact of the away on interview chances. 2 weeks at private practice sites were described as purely shadowing with no OR exposure. Rotators recommended applying but reconsidering the away investment.
  • 22-23Rotators described a newer residency program in recruitment mode, with the rotation focused on working up patients for faculty. 2 weeks with private practice locations in the Austin area. ~1 OR day/week on average. 2 call shifts across 4 weeks, weekends off. End-of-rotation lecture-style presentation on a pre-assigned topic.

Paraphrased from rotator survey responses. Names and identifying details removed.
